| Mountain-bike Skills Session - Monday, June 14, 2010
Hi Greg
I just wanted to say a big thank you for the help you gave Bianca and me through the MTB skills session - we both had a great time riding the 30km DUAL yesterday, and both rode a lot faster and with a lot less effort and pain than we thought, all due to your tips on technique and positioning.
We both found that we just motored up the hills by focusing on pelvic tilt and ankling - it really was amazing!
Before we started we thought we would take about 3 hours to do the 30km, but I finished in 1:38 and Bianca did 1:47 (9th out of 59 female entries!), and we were both still smiling at the end of it! We also both noticed that after the ride, our gluts and hamstrings were feeling it as much as our quads, which really reinforced how we had made better use of all our muscles. And I noticed a lack of lower back pain which must have been from better pelvic position. Bianca also noticed less wrist pain, again from better pelvic position taking load off the arms.
We can't wait to get out and do our next ride again!
Thanks again for running that session - there's no question for both of us that it made a huge difference to how we rode the dual!
Hope you had a fun day - what a fantastic event all round, and brilliantly organised!
cheers
Paul Gordon

| Taking on the Kepler Challenge - Tuesday, December 15, 2009Hi Rachel,
You're a legend; no problems at all with the body at Kepler with a time of 8:39. Apart from the unavoidable quad smashing downhills, I had no issues at all. Calves were not even sore post race which is a first for me. Thanks heaps for your help, I really believe that the 5 sessions with you did as much for me as the 4 months training. I'll be back later in the year to sort out my cycling ;o)

| Breaking a PB Run Time - Sarah Gardener - Thursday, December 03, 2009I was determined to break the 1:35 half marathon, but seemed stuck at a PB of 1:42. On advice of a friend who had shed a massive 20mins off her PB by learning to run with Rachel at BioSPORT I signed up to a 6 week programme. With Rachel I learnt actually HOW to run correctly - head up, shoulders back, abs abs and glutes firing, the different run techniques, and some training shortcuts to get my race tempo faster. And I did it! The BioSPORT team really know what they are doing and how to get the best out of you. Next up 1:30... |
| Mike Oberdries - Greg, give Kirsty a pay rise! - Thursday, September 17, 2009Hi bioSPORT team, just finished riding the 107 km Cycle for Life out at Clevedon, and for the first time in recent memory I was able to race without the distraction of neck, shoulder and thoracic cramps and muscle pain. It was a good test too, plenty of hills and a fast pace – things that in the past would have brought on the worst.
I am wrapped! Climbed way better than normal and lead the pack home over the last 5 kms – must be that new core strength eh!. Good conditions mind you, warm with a nice easterly behind us along the coast. Got home in about 3h 20m (winning time was 2 hr 47m). I was expecting the worst with this course … now sitting at home I have a mild ache in my neck and no shoulder or thoracic muscle discomfort at all and I feel so much better than I normally do.
After trying so many different therapies and therapists to fix this, its great to be finally getting it sorted. Thanks heaps Kirsty.
Cheers, Mike

| Vickie McLea, keen runner - Thursday, August 06, 2009
Hi Greg, just wanted to let you know how I’m getting on as a follow up to my appointment with you back on the 22nd May.
The advice you gave me on foot strike has been amazingly invaluable. It took a bit of practice to change the way I run but the difference has been incredible. I have now become very aware of the amount of impact and stress I was placing on my body with the style I was running with before, now there’s very little impact, and an overall feeling of smoothness and energy efficientness that’s seen me improve not only in speed but endurance as well.
Also being more aware of hip/butt posture and general body alignment has seen the outer hip pain pretty much disappear and not a sign of any ITB aches at this point.
I’m now 4 weeks into my training schedule for the Auckland Marathon and feeling absolutely fantastic.
Thanks so much, Vickie |
| Triathlete Rachel - Friday, July 18, 2008It's a great environment and I've learnt so much, particularly how to ride more effectively so that when I get off the bike and head into the run my legs are still fresh, allowing me to run harder than I had before. Really recommend this! |
| Gordon Walker, 2009 Coast to Coast Winner - Monday, June 23, 2008I’ve been cycling for 15 years and I still believe I am only just scratching the surface of things technically. With the help of Greg at bioSPORT I have discovered a myriad of muscles that weren’t working and a whole lot that were working too hard. With some hard work and persistence I am unlocking the potential in my body with a better understanding of what’s needed functionally on a bike. It’s helping me develop more power, be more comfortable and stay injury free. I would advocate Pilates to all cyclists – from beginner to expert – we all have room for development.” |
